Brett Davis, PLA, ASLA has been promoted to an MKSK Associate. Brett joined MKSK in 2014 and has been the Project Manager on a number of high-profile projects such as the Indiana Statehouse Bicentennial Plaza, Wabash River Promenade, Clarksville Riverfront Plan, Marathon Petroleum Headquarters Campus, and the Lawrence Village Town Center. Brett is an integral part to the firm’s Indiana office, where he works on urban design, master planning, park development and site design projects and has been involved in the entire design process, from conceptual design through construction documentation and implementation. Brett attended Purdue University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (2009). Brett is a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Michigan.
Evan Smith, PLA, ASLA
Evan Smith has been promoted to an MKSK Associate. Evan joined MKSK in 2015 and has been the Project Manager on a number of high-profile projects such as the State Street Corridor Implementation, Gateway District Planning, Purdue Innovation District, and Todd’s Creek Relocation. Evan is an integral part to the firm’s Indiana office, where he works on urban design, master planning, park development and site design projects and has been involved in the entire design process, from conceptual design through construction documentation and implementation. Evan attended Purdue University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (2009). Evan is a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Indiana and Virginia. Evan is the Vice President and Board Member of Our Town Cicero, an Indiana Main Street Association. He is also the Chairman of the Arts & Design Committee for the Town of Cicero.
Tim Rosenthal, AICP
Tim has been promoted to an MKSK Associate. Tim has 11 years of experience in landscape architecture and urban design. He has professional experience with a wide range of projects, including land planning, urban design, corridor planning, parks and recreation planning and design, streetscape enhancements, and educational and health care campus design. Tim is involved at many stages of the project from planning through design and construction detailing. Tim’s recent project work includes: Greater Columbus Convention Center Expansion and High St Improvements, Short North Streetscape Ph. 1 & 4, City of Brookville Fire Station 76 and Market Street Extension, Columbus Southside Streetscapes, I-70/71 Columbus Crossroads Innerbelt Project Ph. 2, 3, 4, 6, I-670 Interchange Design-Build Enhancement, and The Ohio State University John Herrick Drive Extension. Tim attended The Ohio State University for his Master of Landscape Architecture, (2009) and the University of Cincinnati for his Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning (2003). Tim is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners, and member of American Planning Association and American Society of Landscape Architects.
Julie Barnard, PLA, ASLA
Julie Barnard, ASLA, successfully completed her landscape architectural registration exams and is a newly licensed Landscape Architect. Julie joined MKSK in 2015 and is an integral part of the firm’s Indiana office. Julie attended Purdue University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (2010) and attended Ball State University for her Masters in Urban Design (2014). Julie’s passion integrates all aspects of landscape architecture and urban design, including large scale master plans, complex detailing, and design. As part of the design process, Julie brings value through graphic and communication skills, engaging clients and consultants. Her background includes both public and private sector experience. Her current projects include the Wabash River Riverfront Promenade, Wabash River Central Reach, Lafayette, Indiana; Martin Luther King Jr. Park: Kennedy-King Memorial, Indiana Statehouse Bicentennial Plaza, Indianapolis Parks Master Plan and the Lawrenceville Village Center, Indianapolis, Indiana; and the Purdue University Campus Master Plan.
Aaron Kowalski, AICP
Aaron Kowalski’s interdisciplinary background in urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture offers an integral part on the firm’s Indiana office. Aaron has experience in both the private and public sectors and employs a holistic and community-based approach towards planning and design. He has collaborated on and facilitated planning and urban design projects throughout the U.S. with an emphasis on using a design-based planning approach to identify and ideate unique opportunities to address planning and urban design opportunities. Aaron attended Ball State University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture with Minor Concentrations in Architectural Studies and Interior Design (2009) as well as his Masters of Urban Design (2010). His current work includes Purdue University Campus Master Plan, in West Lafayette, Indiana and the GM Stamping Plant Redevelopment Plan in Indianapolis, Indiana. Aaron joined MKSK from Indianapolis based RATIO Architects Inc.
Tom Voyten, PLA
Joining MKSK’s Covington office, Tom has 15 years of design and project management experience on a diverse array of projects that include intimate gardens, parks, urban open space revitalization, mixed-use developments, and medical and academic campuses. His experience working with multidisciplinary teams have demonstrated an ability to ensure successfully realized exterior spaces that balance aesthetics, architectural relationships, programmatic needs and environmental issues. Extensive practice and project design experience in the U.S. and abroad has provided him with expertise in cultural, environmental, horticultural, and climatic diversity that collectively inspires innovative and meaningful design ideas. Tom received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University (1996) as well as his Masters of Landscape Architecture (2001). His recent work includes the Wasson Way MultiModal Trail and Westwood Town Hall Park, Cincinnati, OH; and Blue Ash Airport Land Development, Blue Ash, OH.
Arin’s passion for the urban design and planning joins MKSK’s Columbus office. Her combination of written, spoken and graphic communication—including process identity and website development—tells the story of the larger vision while capturing every critical detail. Arin draws from eight years of experience in small business to relate to any audience and gain real understanding of community desires and goals. She approaches complex analysis of the urban environment with diligence and a high attention to detail. Arin received her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, summa cum laude from The Ohio State University (2005) as well as her Masters of City and Regional Planning (2016). Her recent work includes the Lakeside Chautauqua Park; Connect Columbus MultiModal Transportation Plan; Green Business & Urban Agriculture Strategic Plan and the Discovery District Placemaking Plan in Columbus, OH.
Joining MKSK’s Columbus office, Emily received her Bachelor in Visual Communication Design from The Ohio State University (2016). Emily has experience in all stages of the design process from the initial research and ideation phases through final design and production. Her background has provided her with a solid foundation in many areas of graphic design including: research, branding, user-experience, print and digital design. Originally starting as an Intern, Emily’s professional experiences at MKSK have developed her expertise in the realm of environmental graphics including: signage, wayfinding systems, placemaking and branded environments. Her recent work includes the National Air Force Museum Wayfinding System, Ohio Field Interpretive Signage, Ohio University Dublin Campus Signage, and the Columbus Museum of Art Wayfinding Planning & Signage.
Joining MKSK’s Covington office, Tori is a Business Development Assistant supporting MKSK Principals on executing key marketing strategies. Tori received her Bachelor of Science in City and Regional Planning, Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University (2016). Tori’s background in Planning provides comprehensive support in preparing high quality graphics and analysis.
Melissa is the Office Manager at the Columbus, OH office. Her responsibilities include office management, executive assistance, social media, and supporting critical administrative operations. Melissa studied Psychology and Business at The Ohio State University and previously worked for nine years as a manager.
