SCIOTO RIVERFRONT AMPHITHEATER
The Scioto Riverfront Amphitheater and riverfront promenade is at the heart of the Downtown Riverfront district and a prominent civic space for the City of Columbus. The Amphitheater provides a versatile venue for popular events and festivals such as Red White and Boom, the Columbus Arts Festival, Jazz and RibFest, and Waterfire. In addition, it serves as the visual and functional forecourt to Center of Science and Industry (COSI). Washington Boulevard was also transformed into a pedestrian walk while still allowing for controlled vehicular access, including transportation vehicles serving COSI.
The riverfront promenade provides a strong pedestrian connection to the river’s edge and a continuation of the city-wide bikeway system. This development serves as the centerpiece to all riverfront civic space on the west bank of the Scioto River (the Scioto Peninsula) and much needed park space for the Franklinton neighborhood to the west.
