Open Spaces Cape May County Branding and Signage
Cape May, New Jersey
Community Character Audit
Developing a brand that showcases a community’s historical and cultural assets.
The Open Spaces Cape May County project leveraged both historic and cultural assets. Through careful consideration of the place and its many unique attributes, a brand was developed to be used in a variety of applications. MKSK defined a look and feel that helped to curate future visitor experiences.
The environmental graphics studio followed a strategic discovery process, Which included historical research, a site audit, and stakeholder and community interviews—evaluating and embracing the distinct history of Cape May County in order to preserve the past while shaping the future.
Along with creating a unique identity, this project included pedestrian and bicyclist wayfinding signage, and the development of a comprehensive graphics package. Recommendations include appropriately sited, scaled, and consistent signage, such as gateways, directional trailblazers, parking signage, and pedestrian-scale maps, kiosks, and directional signage.
The comprehensive brand was developed to specifically serve and promote the Open Spaces Cape May County program and suggest applications beyond signage.
