Announcing the MKSK LAB for Climate and Biodiversity Resilience

MKSK

MKSK is committed to leading, through planning and design, the change our world needs, discovering new solutions and building new ways of working.

We believe climate change and loss of biodiversity is real. We are in an era of major, global environmental disruption. There are two principal problems: climate change and loss of global biodiversity. How we got here, and how we solve these problems is immensely complex, but MKSK is committed to leading, through planning and design, the change our world needs, discovering new solutions and building new ways of working. Landscape architects and planners, the two disciplines that lie at the intersection of construction and ecology, are uniquely positioned, and in our opinion obligated, to advance critical thinking to solve these growing challenges. MKSK is committed to elevating the way that landscape architects and planners integrate best and emerging practices to create innovative solutions. The new MKSK LAB for Climate and Biodiversity Resilience will intersect on every level with the work of our practice studios in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture and Transportation Planning. With our clients and leading consultant partners, we will view each question we encounter as an opportunity to advance dialogue and better our environment.

MKSK is, and always has been, committed to sustainable planning and design methodologies as an integral part of our practice.  We seek an understanding and balance between economic, ecological, and social factors, the underlying principles of sustainability, and we creatively apply innovative, responsible, long-term, and practical solutions.

We strive to achieve low-impact site development through means of preserving open space, integrating multi-modal transportation solutions, reducing impervious surfaces and heat islands, incorporating passive solar design, retaining or creating natural habitat, developing high-performance stormwater solutions, and offsetting carbon through careful selection of materials.
